Re-enable G8 Expressions for G8.1

On release of G8.1, Daz restricted the operation of prior G8 expressions.  Various theories abound, but it is assumed to prevent conflict with new G8.1 expressions and prevent duplicate dials to appear.  Since release, users have found that they can restore the G8 expressions by removing these restrictions.

Many discussions about this operation can be found in the following threads:

To re-enable G8 expressions for G8.1, do the following:

  1. Navigate within your content directory to …data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\
  2. Right-click on the “Base Pose Head” directory and “Send To…” -> Compressed Zip Folder
  3. A new Zip file containing the directory should appear.  If not, stop and do not continue until you confirm the directory is zipped and safe (for later restore if needed)
  4. You can now delete the “Base Pose Head” folder
  5. Right-click on the “Expressions” directory and “Send To…” -> Compressed Zip Folder
  6. A new Zip file containing the directory should appear.  If not, stop and do not continue until you confirm the directory is zipped and safe (for later restore if needed)
  7. You can now delete the “Expressions” folder
  8. Now load a G8.1 Female and your G8 expressions should work.

You can repeat the above procedure replacing Female 8_1 on the first step, with Male 8_1.  Once completed, an example directory would look like this:

Of course, you may have some duplicate dials and such, and if you want to “delve deeper” into fixing it all up, feel free to peruse those links above.  This is just a quick summary based on my findings, for a nice person!  🙂

iClone Notes

Some notes for my reference on iClone, posting in the blog in case they help anyone else.

Fingers bend wrong for A3, V4 or older characters?

I noticed that when importing Genesis, it did an auto-convert, so I went to find the profile it used for Genesis, and see if there were some settings I could tweak for the Gen4. I found them here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Reallusion\iClone 3DXchange 6\3DX template\AutoConvertNonStd. I copied “02_Daz4Genesis.3dxProfile” to my custom 3dxProfile area (where it is accessible from the “load” menu)

When importing G2F to 3dXchange, the expressions seem extreme.  I found that in the FBX export from Daz, you need to “ignore” the morphs for “Genesis2Female” or else they are doubled with “head” in the FBX export.

A New Beginning

Have you ever looked back on something you did, and felt like, “Am I proud of that?”, or “How does that make a positive impact?”…or in my case, “Does that honor God?”

As a Christian, I am taking a look back at some of the art and images I have made, and have asked myself those same questions. To be honest, I am not proud of many of them.

So today I am making a clean sweep, and starting new!

I am keeping only those images that I feel are fun, edifying and nice…filtering out those which could be considered superficial, insensitive or inappropriate. I will be re-making/editing a few of them, as well! 🙂

Unfortunately, this is the internet, and many of the images I have removed are out there forever. For that, I can only apologize.

V4 Clone for Dawn – Tutorial

Here is a link to download the PDF for making a V4 Clone for Dawn

Link: V4 Clone for Dawn

Notes:

You can use a prepared pose for Dawn, instead of manually matching her up (such as provided in this POST by @Bejaymac, which includes additional changes and scaling), or here are some settings (with some updates) for Dawn to match V4, to get you started. Again they were real quick, but close enough to get fitting clothes. The odd decimal places are due to the dials…I did not work to get them that precise.

Originally posted by me as a NOTE:

@Pendraia mentioned using “scale” was bad for this, but not sure the technical reasons why. You can always redo, if we find there are better setting and overwrite the .dsf. Just thought I should mention it, cause I just “figured” this out, where others do this stuff often in content creation
